I haven't been shooting photos in a while: nearly 3 months to be exact. Instead I have been sidelined with a broken kneecap. The break wasn't a simple fracture. My patella was broken in multiple pieces. Luckily, I had a great surgeon that put the puzzle back together. I should recover with no lasting consequences other than a high probability of developing arthritis in that knee. I'll be okay.
So what to do when I can't drive, can't walk without crutches, can't bend my leg, and can't really do much of anything except sit with by leg straight and elevated? I decided it was time to stock my fly boxes for the fall in hope of being back on the water sometime in October.
A few dozen flies later, I'm still tying. It's a way for me to fish vicariously through tying flies and imagining the fish I will present them to this fall. I've tied new flies, old favorites, multiple sizes, and lots of variations. All saltwater patterns for now, but I think I will switch from to freshwater patterns and do the same with the hope of getting back to the NC mountains this fall.
It's not the way I wanted to spend summer, but I'll get through this and I'll have plenty of flies for fall.
